Regular readers will know I caution against believing everything you read in the papers. Well this story I expect you will remember and you cant believe what you see either. Poor old Chris Ramsey 'airbrushed' from history at the whim of a sub-editor in April 2014. As we take another look at how the press have covered the Spurs. Well they say there is nothing new in football. You will recall the 'Archway' business and the new stadium. I will direct your attention to this story right. Its from Feb. 1938. We even made the fashion pages in December 1921. The Bystander magazine looking at how women should dress for sport included this comment "It is not possible that one half of the team shall be dressed as the Grecian maids and the other as the Tottenham Hotspur." I don't normally do match reports in these looks back at the papers but I thought this one from December 27th 1961 might be worth revisiting. ‘Spurs did a Christmas morning training stint to prepare for this game They needn’t have bothered. Even if they had turned up full of Christmas pud they surely could still have conquered this lifeless heartless Chelsea side. If it had finished 6-0 nobody would have been surprised.’ The report tells us the Chelsea played like a lowly second division side. In a time when agents do deals with mind games and journalists. A refreshing item from the Boston Guardian April 1905. T.J.Manning (known to all as cracker) did he join? I can find no record of him playing for the first team. It was Merry Christmas, sorry Chivers, two weeks before the holiday in 1973 and Martin led the way as we destroyed Tbilisi 5-1 at WHL. Below left - April 1978 and Perryman scores which means we need just a point from the last game of the season to return to Divison One. Right - The lads in training make the front page of the Illustrated Daily Post Card, 1905. Sorry I cant tell you if anyone took up the Rev. Paxton's offer which he made in November 1933. We have all blamed the ref at some point but this clipping from July 1930 may just top whatever you said he got wrong.
