In our latest look at Spurs in ‘minor’ competitions we find a good pre-season story that actually moves away from the competitive and focus on two 'friendly' encounters Tottenham played under the banner of the ‘Football League Jubilee Trust’ just before World War 2.
The Football League said ‘It was concerned about the after care of our league players’ and what would become of them after their playing days were over ‘whether by accident or age’
The Gallery where we gather together some Tottenham images linked by a theme.
On this occasion as the new season its about to be launched its a look back at last season's league programme.
The Tottenham Mysteries returns with a look at an oddity that had puzzled me for a long time, just why Spurs and Celtic exchanged rugs instead of the traditional pennant before their pre-season meeting August 1967. Even the clubs website in 2014, before the two clubs meeting in Finland described that day said ‘exchanged rugs instead of the customary pennants.’ The Tottenham Mysteries decided to dig deeper.
The previous glimpses into the world of Tottenham's programmes seem to have been well received so I thought for this seasons mid-week diversion when we take a look at something lighter as we face a kick off sometime in the wee small hours we would explore the subject a little further, hence this aperitif.
The articles to follow have been 'loosely' themed whilst this appetizer is more a random 'sneak peak.' Although a number do feature games at the start of the season.
