We all love a good conspiracy tale. It does not have to make sense just sound good. Be it an Asian betting ring was really behind pasta-gate, the moon landings were faked and filmed just outside Hyderabad or that Daniel Levy was implicated in the shooting of John F Kennedy. So what better way to spend your Sunday.

So where you aware that there was a World Cup in 1942 and that the 1958 competition never happened ? And there’s film to prove it.

This round up of tales from World Cup history. Including why the Brazilians wear yellow, when they wore blue and other stories about our hosts. We find out who are the bad boys of the competition. How a 14 year old boy knocked Spain out of the World Cup. There’s what happened to a final goal scoring hero next and how close did England come to withdrawing after qualifying in the 1980‘s. We also discover why did Yugoslavia kicked off with only ten men and ask just who would be a manager. All figures are to the commencement of this years finals.

This series has concentrated on the World Cup finals. I have included a number of stories from the qualifiers and was asked recently about England’s qualifying campaigns. Well the English records are a lot easier to trace and being English I can recall (sometimes painfully) many of them. Here (rather later than planned) are some of the Tottenham links to the earlier English qualifying campaigns.
