Baseball Champions This trip down to the archive takes us to the far corner of the trophy room and reveals an rarely told story of Tottenham success. It may amaze you to discover that Tottenham Hotspur were actually the UK National Baseball Champions back in 1906 and 1908. If you think tracking footie from that era is a contradictory nightmare then try Baseball. Luckily the Baseball fraternity are very friendly (1). We also discover one of our international players played the sport and other links between Spurs and the great American pastime. So as the Americans say .”Lets play Ball.” After the excitement of Wednesday I expect we will all have been watching events unfold in the courts this week and by the time you read this we should all have some idea how things turned out (baring appeals). TT had to be finished on Thursday so hopefully its good news. After the great response to Homer Simpson being revealed as a Spurs fan (1) lets start his week with a woo woo. If you missed it well shame on you but do check it out now. So this week we are having a tattoo special, lots of League Cup stuff and of course the usual twaddle. Oh and Tottenham V India. The FA Youth Cup reaches the last 32 this week, so a timely look back at the clubs history in this competition. Having won it three times and finished runners up twice, only three teams have won the competition more often than Spurs. Our wins coming in 1970, 74 and 1990. We also look at players who featured in the tournament over the years. Tottenham first reached the final in 1970, meeting Coventry City. All finals have been held over two legs. A Tottenham team containing Steve Perryman and Grahame Soulness won the trophy 4-3 on aggregate. |
