![]() With the Tottenham fan base growing in India everyday many of the fans may not be familiar with the name Tim Sherwood. Tim who is one of the team who have taken charge of the first team for the time being played for Spurs from 1999 to 2003. He rejoined the club on the coaching staff in 2008 and was lately appointed Technical Co-ordinator. Tim was born in St. Albans, for those of you not sure that’s around an hours drive north of the Lane depending on the M1 and M25 motorways. He signed for Watford, before moving on to Norwich City and then Blackburn Rovers. At Blackburn he skippered the side to fourth and second places before winning the League in 1995. That season he was voted onto the PFA team of the year. Not a player to win admirers for his silky skills he did win a reputation throughout his career for being a hard working midfielder. He then joined Tottenham in 1999 when George Graham paid three million pounds for him. He appeared in 118 games for us scoring 16 goals. Featuring in the UEFA Cup competition in the 1999-2000 season. He captained the side from 2001 to 2003 and won a Runners-up medal in the League Cup in 2002. During his time at the Lane he played alongside fellow coach Steffen Freund in our midfield.
Since returning to the Lane Tim, a well liked member of the staff, has built himself a good reputation as a coach. He has been heavily involved with the younger players and was part of the team that guided the youth side in the Next Generation competition. He was appointed Technical Co-ordinator which has involved the successful use of the loan system to develop our younger players at a lower level. At different times the media have linked him to the manager’s posts at Blackburn, Swindon, Brighton and Swansea. After retiring from playing he turned his hand to being a TV pundit for a while. Then in 2005 he launched Icon Magazine along with fellow ex-Spur Jamie Redknapp. I’m sure all true Spurs fans we join me in wishing him Good Luck in his the new role.
