The Lane (8)

The next set of milestones along The Lane as we gather  together the snapshots in time from last seasons series which ran on social media celebrating White Hart Lane and its wonderful history.

This time we have more records, international visitors, benefits and floodlight failures.

2nd December 1995 sees our 2000th. competitive match at WHL is a 0-0 draw with Everton in the PL.
3rd Dec. 1975 and our highest score in the League Cup is 7-2 as we beat Doncaster Rovers. John Duncan hits a hat trick, Chivers 2, Pratt and an OG are the other scorers in the 5th Round game,

The Third also sees two other games, 1945 and on the Monday in an inter-army game England beat Scotland 3-0. Then in 1953 an FA XI also win 3-0 with the RAF.

3rd December 1910 – Our first league win over Woolwich arsenal 3-0 Darnell, Minter  and Humphreys get the goals with 16,000 watching. Papers

Yet another game on the 3rd. This time its 1932 as Swansea are beaten 7-0.

And in the Double season its a eight goal thriller as we draw 4-4 with Burnley.

4th December 1935 – Almost two years to the day after England first played at WHL they return and play German in a 3-0.


6th December 1933 - The first full International is played at WHL. England beat France 4-1.
Again on the 6th in 1972, Liverpool are beaten 3-1 in the League Cup Semi Final.

The 7th December 1907 and the England Amateur team, less than a year after they play their first game and their first in England.
Vivian Woodward is the captain as they beat Ireland 6-1.

One of the linesman is Tottenham Director, Tom Deacock.

On the 8th December (1932) the Austrian team (above) are pictured at WHL. The night before they played England when the home side won 4-3.

The 8th Dec. is Rumanian day. 1958 and a Bucharest Select XI are the visitors. Tottenham win 4-2, Medwin, Stokes, Jones and a Harmer penalty.

Then in 1971 its a 3-1 win over Rapid Bucharest in the UEFA Cup third round sees another milestone. The first goal that night is our 50th in European action at WHL.

10th December 2015  - Erik Lamela scores the clubs latest hat trick in a competitive game as we beat Monaco in the Europa League  4-1.

11th December 1899 – The first benefit game is played at WHL for JL Jones and R.Stormont who both play. Tottenham play the Gentlemen of the South and its a 4-1 win as Stormont himself scores alongside Pratt, Copeland and Cameron.

12th Dec 2013 and Tottenham’s 150th competitive hat trick at WHL is scored by Roberto Soldado as we win 4-1 in the Europa League game with Anzhi Makachkala.

14th Dec 2006 Jermain scores his first (and second) goals in European action and he will go on to become our top scorer in Europe, as we beat Dinamo Bucharest 3-1.

15th Dec 1956 Competitive match 1000 for Spurs at WHL and a 1-1 draw with Preston.

16th December 1961 -Jimmy Greaves debut and he scores the first of 15 hat tricks for Tottenham, he will become Tottenham's top goalscorer of all time and head the hat tricks chart.

17th December 1969 – The game with Everton which had been postponed the month before due to snow is abandoned when the floodlights fail after 29 minutes with the score still 0-0. The game is then rescheduled for January but moved again due to cup commitments and is finally played in March.

17th Dec 1904, Our biggest win in the Southern League is 8-0 as we beat Wellingbourgh

18th December 1981 – The game with Liverpool is our 3,000 in the Football League,  Paul Walsh (left) scores as we go down 1-2.

18th Dec. 1990 Peter Shilton's testimonial sees an England XI  play an 'Italia ’90 side.'

Gascoigne and Lineker score as England win 4-0. Paul Walsh, Paul Allen Ossie Ardiles and Nayim are also on duty in front of 12,000.

18th Dec 1899 - H R Burkes XI are beaten 12-2 in a game for the Reservists Fund. David Copeland 4, Cameron 2, Kirwan 4, Pratt  and Smith score.
On the same day on 2004 - Defoe gets his first spurs hat trick in a 5-1 win over Southampton.
