![]() Our salute to White Hart Lane last season is gathered together in this series as we record various snapshots in time of the stadiums life. Some wonderful and some moving stories as we enter November. White Hart Lane Then - Now - Forever 24th October 1962 – Tottenham beat Manchester United as they lead by five goals with ten minutes to play and ease up. The visitors pull two back before Cliff Jones makes the final score 6-2. Terry Medwin scored two and Jimmy Greaves a hat trick in the game that saw our 2,000th goal in Division One. While on that day 1925 Frank Osborne scores a hat trick as we beat Liverpool 3-1. The following week he will score another at Leicester and the following yet another at home to West Ham. He will score two more in his spurs career. ![]() 28th Oct. 1953 We defeat FK Austria 3-2 in a friendly at White Hart Lane. Sonny Walters, Len Duquemin and Tommy Harmer score. It is Tottenham’s second first team game ‘under the lights at The Lane. 28th Oct 1970 Martin Peters (left) scores his first Spurs hat trick. It comes in the League Cup tie with West Brom as we win 5-0 in our trophy winning season. Alan Gilzean adds the other two. 30th Oct 1972 - Spurs meet Middlesbourgh in a third game in the LC 3th round. Having drawn 1-1 away the replay at Spurs was 0-0 and the third game at WHL Spurs having won the toss ended 2-1 to Tottenham with Gilzean and Peters scoring. Alan Gilzean scores the winning goal in the 118th minute. Then Middlesborough hit the bar. Spurs will play the next round two days later on the way to becoming the first team to win the trophy twice. ![]() October 31st 1962 - The first game in the European Cup Winners Cup played at WHL and the Battle of Britain sees Tottenham beat Glasgow Rangers 5-2 as they set out on the campaign that will see them become the first British side to win a European Trophy. Left - Cliff Jones gets a header on target V Rangers. 1st November 1947 and White Hart Lane’s 50th competitive hat trick comes form Len Duquemin as we beat Brentford 4-0 in Division 2. 1st November 1972 having taken three games to beat Middlesbourgh in the League Cup Third Round the Fourth sees us play Millwall at home just two days later, with Bill Nicholson making only one charge in the lineup. Nearly ten thousand more are at WHL to see Spurs win again 2-0. Peters again and this time Perryman score for Spurs. ![]() Nov 3rd 1935 – He may hold the record for scoring fastest five goals for England but on this day Willie Hall scores his only hat trick for Spurs V Swansea Town as we win 7-2. 4th Nov 1950 the first of three hat tricks in the Championship winning season comes from Eddie Baily (left) as we dispatch Portsmouth 5-1. The other two hat tricks that season, Les Medley and Len Duquemin A first hat trick for Tom Pratt V Thames Ironworks (who will suffer financial difficulties and reform as West Ham) in a Southern League tie on 4th Nov 1899. 5th November 1930 - The Football League make their second and last appearance at The Lane when they meet a team from another country as they play the Scottish League. They win 7-3, in front of 21, 738. Tottenham’s Cyril Spiers is in goal. ![]() 6th November 1899 Tottenham beat Chatham 8-0 at home in the Southern District Combination. It is Charle Ambler’s last game for Spurs. He had been an amateur with us since 1894. 6th November 2008 Darren Bent (right) gets his only Spurs hat trick as we beat Dinamo Zagreb 4-0. ![]() The 7th November is Willie Hall (left) day. he was born this day in 1912, in 1931 he made his debut and scored twice against Swansea Town in our 6-2 win and then in 1936 he played his last game for us (sadly) away in a draw at Aston Villa. 7th November 1925 – Frank Osborne scores a hat trick at home to West Ham. It’s the third game in a row he has hit a treble. 7th November 1999 – Our 1000th win in the PL arrives when we beat Arsenal 1-0. 7th November 2004 – The Bill Nicholson Memorial Service ![]() 8th November 1899 – The first ever FA Cup tie played at the ground and it doesn't involve Spurs. The game is a second replay between Woolwich Arsenal and New Brompton. The game is a draw. 8th November 1958 – The 1-1 draw with Bolton is our 1,000th game in Division One. 8th November 2012 – Our 200th competitive goal in European action at White Hart Lane is the second goal V Maribor in the Europa League game, we win 3-1. Defoe hits a hat trick, see top image. The evening also sees Fabrice Muamba return to WHL. The Bolton player suffered a cardiac arrest during an earlier game. He said "I want to thank all of you Spurs fans who were here and who prayed for me, you were all fantastic and I will never forget." 10th November 1991 – The Cyril Knowles memorial game. 11th November 1964 – The club stage John White’s memorial match against a Scottish XI twenty four hours later than planned due to bad weather. ![]() 12th November 1904 the various competitions don’t help each other or the clubs and Tottenham play two games on this day. They find themselves away to Fulham in the Western League and at home to Millwall in the Southern. The reserves travel to Fulham and draw 0-0 while the first team beat Millwall 1-0. 12th November 1949 Sheffield United are dispatched 7-0. The game comes in the middle of a 22 unbeaten run as Tottenham head for the Second Division championship. It’s the style of the performance that has fans looking forward to the return to the top flight. Walters has a hat trick and Duquemin and Medley two each. 12th Nov 1956 and Bobby Smith scores a hat trick at home to Hearts as we win 4-2 in the Anglo Scottish floodlight competition. Below Bobby here V Sheffield Wednesday. 12th November 1980, Garth Crooks scores a hat trick V Crystal palace it’s the first one against them for spurs (only Freddie Kanoute has done it since 2004) in our 4-2 win.
