The series saluting White Hart Lane which ran on Social media last season reaches mid January. Our journey down The Lane reaches a number of milestones. A club sells us their cup game, a wonderful comeback, there are penalties, shootouts and brothers. As well as player appearing using an alias !

15th Jan 1914 – Having drawn the first game 5-5 at Leicester, Spurs win the First Round Cup Replay at WHL 2-0, Walden and Bliss scoring for Spurs. Straight after the game we sign Tommy Clay from the midland club.

16th Jan 1909 – One of the great comebacks in Tottenham history, Spurs in their first season in the Football league host first division Manchester City in the FA Cup. City went into a two goal lead but a Morris penalty, two from Minter plus one from Bobby Steel give us a 4-3 win.

16th January1913 – Having drawn 1- at the Lane with Blackpool in the FA Cup a few days earlier they meet in the replay, again at the Lane, as Blackpool at the time were attracting very low gates and ‘sold’ the replay to Tottenham, who won 6-1.

16th Jan. 2016 Ericksen 2 (top), Kane and Dembele score as we beat Sunderland 4-1 in the PL which is our 2,500th competitive match at WHL.

18th Jan. 1965 and Torquay who felt they were unlucky to draw 3-3 in the first round are sent out of the Cup in the replay by a Greaves hat trick, Gilzean and Robertson get the others in a 5-1 win.

18th Jan. 1982 – and amazing drama in the League Cup 5th round with Nottingham Forest. Tottenham win a penalty and Hoddle takes to see it saved. The ref orders a retake as defenders encroached in the area. Hoddle scores but the ref orders another retake as Mark Falco encroaches and the third attempt is saved!
Only a very late mishit effort from Ardiles saves some blushes as Spurs win 1-0.

19th January 1994 – Tottenham’s first penalty shootout in the FA Cup and we beat Peterbourgh (bottom of Division One) in a FA Cup 3rd round replay 5-4. The first shot out at WHL since the 1984 UEFA Cup Final. Tottenham had scored a late equalizer in the first game and then taken the lead in the replay before they leveled the scores and took the game to extra time. The Spurs scorers were Caskey, Kerslake, Anderton, Barmby (who had scored in the game) and Sedgley. The hero was Ian Walker in goal who saved the 4th shot.
