The Almanac turns back to November again as we look at some more events, games and characters that helped shape our club over the years. 16th - 1968 - Jimmy Greaves hits four as we beat Sunderland 5-1. He already has 15 goals that season including two hat tricks. 16th - 1938 - Willie Hall sets England records when he scores five in the game V Northern Ireland. Three of them coming in under four minutes. 16th - 1991 - Tottenham are losing 0-1 to Luton at home when there is a floodlight failure. After a 15 minute break Spurs score twice with Lineker and Scott Houghton to give us the win. 17th - 1951 - Bill Nicholson scores his last goal in a Spurs shirt. Les Bennett and Len Duquemin also hit the net as we beat Chelsea 3-2 at home. 18th - 1950 - The year before and Les Medley runs up a hat trick. Newcastle are beaten 7-0 at home as Spurs head towards their first League Championship. An amazing 70,336 are at the game. Its Tottenham’s eight win in a row. 18th - 1965 - In a game V an Hungarian Select XI at White Hart Lane Alan Gilzean has a hat trick as we win 4-0 but its overshadowed when Maurice Norman breaks his leg and doesn’t play for Spurs again. 19th - 1932 - Willie Evans hit’s a hat trick as we beat Chesterfield 4-1 in our promotion year from Division two. 19th - 1887 - Tottenham Marshes sees our first game V Royal Arsenal. They turn up late and then appeal for the game to be abandoned due to bad light with Spurs winning 2-1. 19th - 2006 - A debut goal for Steed Malbranque in a drawn match at Blackburn. 20th - 2010- Spurs are 0-2 down away to Arsenal but rally to win the game 3-2. Younes Kaboul heads the winner in the dying minutes (left). 20th - 1926 - Not such a good day as Tottenham lose 0-5 at Burnley. We finish the game with only eight players and some of those are carrying injuries. 21st - 1908 - We only play at the Gainsbourgh Trinity ground once. The game come in our first Football League season. Tottenham win 2-0. 21st - 1931 - Spurs hit nine in the league for the first time when they defeat Port Vale 9-3. 22nd - 1986 - In what many see us the first time we play with one forward in front of five midfielders Clive Allen (below) scores twice on his way to 49 goals for the season when we win 4-2 at Oxford United. Chris Waddle scores the other goals. 24th - 1975 - Goals in extra time from Willie Young (the day before his birthday) and John Duncan see us beat West Ham in the League Cup. 24th - 1994 - Neil Bentaleb (top) is born, making him 21 this year. 25th - 2012 - Jermain Defoe hits two as we win 3-1 at home to West Ham. 26th - 1876 - Tom Smith was born. He would score for the team in the 1901 Cup Final replay. 27th - 1947 - Jimmy Pearce is born in Tottenham. Starting as an apprentice he turns pro in 1965. Makes his debut V Arsenal and is in the League Cup winning side of 1973. He retires the following year when it is discovered he has a bone complaint. 27th - 1948 - Our match at home to Nottingham forest is abandoned due to fog after just 17 minutes at the Lane. 29th - 1954 - The only time we play Accrington Stanley. The friendly match is called off after 52 minutes due to heavy rain with the score still blank. 29th - 1997 - Christian Gross takes over as manager.(Some sources give other dates, this is the one quoted by THFC). 30th - 1957 - We finish the month with goals. Bobby Smith hit’s a hat trick away against the then champions Manchester United as we win 4-3.
