The Almanac for December continues and as well as festive joy we have a new manager who will bring us trophies, fog and floods, we seek Winter sun and go top of the table, Then we have problems with the press, hit lots of goals and celebrate a few birthdays. We start on the way to the Double and on the 17th in 1960 - A very foggy day nearly sees the game called off but nothing was stopping Tottenham that season as we win 3-1 at Everton. 19th - 1959 - Tottenham go top after beating Newcastle 4-0. Blanchflower, Norman, White and Jones are the marksmen. 19th - 1964 - Alan Gilzean makes his first Spurs start but its fellow G-man Greaves that scores twice as we draw with Everton. 20th - 1982 - We lose 0-2 to Borussia Monchengladbach in a friendly played in Tel Aviv 20th - 1902 - Woodward hits two goals and we win 4-0 V QPR in a Southern League match. 21st - 1957 - Bobby Smith scores twice against his old club Chelsea as we win 4-2 and go above them in the table. 21st - 1912 - Peter McWilliam becomes Tottenham manager for the first time. 21st - 1951 - Steve Perryman (left) is born. 22nd - We beat Laytmer 2-0 in a friendly but the Weekly Herald refuses to print the match report as Laytmer dispute the result. 22nd - 1990 - We have two men sent off and are a goal down before Paul Stewart plays the game of his life and gives us the win. 22nd - 1962 - Dave Mackay strikes a hat trick as we draw 4-4 with West Ham. 22nd - 2013 - Current star Nabil Bentaleb plays his first game in a win away to Southampton. 23rd - 2002 - Our win away to Manchester City is unusual in that all three of our goals come from headers - Perry, Davies and Poyet are the men using their heads. 24th - 1898 - There is little Christmas joy as after our 5-1 win away to Warmley in the season they also resign from the Southern League and the result is made void. 24th - 1904 - The Southern League game at Southampton is abandoned at half time with us winning 2-1 when the ref decides the pitch is waterlogged. 25th - 1907 - There is Christmas joy as Woodward scores both goals as we beat Northampton 25th - 1911 - Tottenham beat some team based in Woolwich 5-0. Minter (who was born in Woolwich) scores two of the goals. (Yes I have mentioned this game before but it is Christmas). 26th - 2015 - Happy Birthday to skipper Hugo Lloris who turns 29 today. 26th - 1884 - An earlier Boxing Day sees one of our earliest games at home game with Grove. The result is one of those lost in time. 26th - 2012 - One result we do know is the 4-0 win at Aston Villa and Bale has a hat trick. 26th - 1962 - Another Boxing Day hat trick as Jimmy Greaves puts Luton to the sword 5-0.
27th - 2011 - Bale gives himself and us another late present with both goals in a win at Norwich 27th - 1910 - Walter Tull’s first Spurs goal comes in the 1-1 draw at home to Manchester City. (link -http://www.indiaspurs.com/blog/hotspur-towers-walter-tull) 28th - 1936 - Blackburn are beaten 5-1 at home and Les Miller has four of them. 29th - 1984 - Things are looking good as we head the table after a 2-0 win against Sunderland but we would slip to third. 29th - 1956 - Another first goal this time Terry Dyson in a 4-0 win over Bolton. 29th - 2007 - Dimitar Berbatov fires four goals at The Lane V Reading as we win 6-4. 30th - 1961 - Cliff Jones wants to see the new year in properly as his hat trick helps us beat Chelsea 5-2. 31st - 2011 - We see the new year in as the top London Club when we bring a point back from Swansea. Van der Vaart getting our goal in a 1-1 result. There are a number of other December events included in the Christmas and New Year specials.
