As the season draws to an end you’re invited to dip into the Selection Box. Let’s take a moment to look back at some of the specials that ‘Talking Tottenham’ has covered over the recent months. Sometimes serious but hopefully always an entertaining diversion between matchday’s. Who doesn’t enjoy a selection box with old favourites and finding a few new gems. I have selected images here that were not included in the original articles. I’ve tried to blend ‘Talking’ to ensure a balance with the more “serious” stuff throughout the year, having evolved over the last four years from a regular magazinely style into a series of interesting sidesteps investigating the non-football type areas of the World of Hotspur. Often laced with a gentle sprinkling of trivia and quotes. During the year we looked back at Tottenham at the Movies, twice in fact, exploring some of the well-known features as well as a couple that might have slipped past you at different times. Dating from the earliest ‘talkies’ to the current in production. For those of you that prefer to cuddle up in an armchair in the front room and watch the TV we again explored some of the links to various programmes over the years with our club. We even gave you two channels to watch. All the specials mentioned are available at the links below. Left - Gary Lineker's Spitting Image mask. The petrol heads amongst you were well looked after with ‘Stars and Cars’ and ‘The Motor Show’ being the latest regarding the various combustion engines the players whizzed around in. Right - Martin Chivers during his spell with Servette. New this season was the ‘the Ad Break’ which proved very popular. As we loosely explored the advertising of the club, what the players endorsed as well as various sponsorship and commercial ties. Left - The Hotspur boot. Maybe the item that drew the biggest reaction was the cartoons series - What they drew, and ‘The Art of’ articles looking back at how the cartoonist / artist saw has portrayed the side and its fans through newspaper coverage and other arenas over the years. Below right - From the match report of Spurs V Aston Villa in 1903. Above left - Bill Caldwell's work for the Daily Star in January 1979, with the Oldham coach saying 'Terrific! I was hoping we'd meet Leicester, Spurs, Wrexham or Stockport.' Putting down the pen for the last time we waved goodbye to Tattoo’s, which started as a one off some time back it continued due to the seemingly at one point endless artists / models out there with quite amazing body art. Only including different designs rather than repeating oneself we still ran to three articles. Each one included a player and his own creations. I think we must have covered every design out there out! Unless of course you have a pot of ink and other ideas. A new venture I confessed I knew little about and one I wasn’t sure would fly was the ‘pin badge’ brigade. Well not only is that industry still going it is clearly thriving as the response from you showed it There will certainly be a second on the subject. The 100th Talking Tottenham arrived during the winter and we celebrated here with another set of Tottenham cakes! Another idea which started as a one-off and the reader’s responded to show they were certainly hungry for more as they just keep coming. Once again I do wonder if we have finally used up all the various designs and styles. Only you can decide if there will be another slice to hand around. The creativity of Spurs fans around the world in these various subjects astounds me and I applaud you all. Below - OK not a Spurs game but was too lovely too miss out on. We certainly catered for the kids, of all ages, and ‘Toys 4 Spurs’ was (would you believe the 4th) on the subject. One of the most driven subjects by the reader, every time I think we have exhausted the subject the in-box pings and I go wow I remember that one, or I never knew that. This is where you come in; I know there is a lorry out there with ‘Robbie Keane’ on the side. Not our Robbie, but, if you know of any others not included so far do contact me. And talking of The Christmas Special this year was ‘The Rise of the Lilywhites’ the fourth in the series, if only some Hollywood blockbuster sequels could match us. Anyway I do have a pile of images cluttering up the file but if you have any Christmasy pictures or stories we haven’t used, Spurs if possible, but any footy based accepted. Failing that I will sort out another great title, at the moment the minds blank, no that’s not the title. Only Talking Tottenham could mention Christmas (in this case 2015) at this time of year. We rounded up some more celebs for inclusion in the Celebrity Fan Box, this time around it was just 51 so that’s 281 in the three boxes so far in that mini-series. No need to wait for the builders to finish work you can put names down now, we have about half a dozen currently. Hollywood A listers would be great but if you know any Lilywhite ‘celebs’ and I use the term loosely be they actors, musicians, or other arts, leaders in their field, Politician’s we even have a famous criminal in there. So far we have only managed a couple with Indian connections for admission so some work to be done there. Top Pic - Marina Sirtis who pops up not just in the Celebrity Fan Box but also reveals her tattoo for us. And lets not forget she did an exclusive India Spurs interview. I wasn’t sure about ‘Cover Story’, where we have featured in magazines over the years. Again the masses have spoken with more submissions arriving. But, if you see any of the current crop of players looking back from the newsstand please let me know. Right - The Lilywhite from May 1958. After last season’s ‘Halloween’ this year we did a Valentine special. There were two other editions ‘Adventures in N17’ and ‘Is Stat right?’ which exposed the ‘endless fun’ writing a blog can be. We did also veer off into debate in places but the responses were well down when we trod that path. And now, it’s time for you be help shape the future, pausing to thank everyone who has read the scribbles over the last year, those who have helped promote it and a massive ‘triffic’ to the usual suspects who send in pics and comments. Always good to hear from the outside world as I sit here in the hilly hideaway. Now is your chance to influence ‘Talking’ going forward. Feel free to let me know what you liked (or didn’t). I try and keep the blog fresh and different from other people’s efforts. Next season, if only to empty some of the clutter, I was thinking of the same and different (normally only a football manager could get away with that statement). I do have a few new ideas and a few on a different tangent. Your thoughts are welcome on TT (or the other stuff if you like) I know some of you like to DM me, if only as messaging via the blog has had its difficulties. Or if you have images or something that would fit in, for instance I know there are pics of Jimmy Greaves driving a removal lorry, somewhere. Anyway there is a ton of good stuff lined up to help past the summer months and into the autumn, so don’t fret and keep an eye on the blog and links below. COYS
