I thought we would take another look at Spurs programmes as the previous articles were well received. Having delved through the files  unfortunately a vast number are not of the quality needed to publish here. However here are a few which I hope your enjoy that are from the 'golden age' of progs. The period before the Second World War when a different cartoon adorned the front cover of each of four page issues. They are mostly the work of Fred Perry.

The Big Kick off mentioned above is the opening day of the 1937/8 season when we opened with a 0-0 encounter with Coventry.

Right - The start of the 1926/7 season and our second game was a 7-3 win over newly promoted Sheffield Wednesday. Here we see Bolton (cup winners) and Huddersfield (Champions) booking tickets for a tour of all the Division One grounds while behind them Cocky (a relative of Chirpy) discusses the coming season with a chap called Clarence and the possibilities for each side.

Quite often Spurs players would feature and above left we have Percy Hooper our goalie here on the cover of the Swansea game in November 1937. Center - Bert Sproston (Wednesday again this time 1938). Bert was only with us a short while but did win England honours in that time.
Picture
Above right and the player feature is Ernie Phyers - The Bradford Park Avenue game in October 1935. Ernie was with us three years but managed just 30 games for Spurs.

Left - This is the reserve game V Clapton Orient on 10th December 1932. The week before we had beaten Swansea, Welshmen 7-0.
Each knot is a goal labelled with the scorer.

Above left - Grimsby are the visitors on Boxing Day 1934.
Above right - New Years Eve 1921 and the vessel The Saucy Spurs  (this featured a number of times) is about to hit the sea-monster Preston which is wishing Cocky a Happy New Year. It was we won 5-0,

Right - Sheffield United April 38 - The teams trying for promotion (inc Spurs) are featured around the Easter Egg.

It was quite common to feature the visiting side, below Left Barnsley 1937 and their manager Angus Seed
(brother to our former player Jimmy).
center - Fulham and Craven Cottage Feb 38,
Right - The West Brom players - March 34.

Look at the shop keeper and wonder about getting away with the points in the game with Newcastle.

Below left - Newcastle are featured again having beaten us 1-4 at St James's the week before in this programme for the visit of Huddersfield  (2-2) in September 1927.
Right - The Manchester United programme from September 1910.
Cocky has just run around the orchard and Maggie is saying he is delighted to see him but I cant allow you to take those apples as they are very scarce this year.

I assumed that Maggie was Newcastle again, but the fixtures show we played there the month before (and lost). The game before this was another defeat at Notts County.

March 1931 and Everton and Spurs are dancing as both sides are in with a chance to win the championship. Cocky watching says a pretty dance but I hope to lead them a prettier one this afternoon. We won 1-0 but they took the title.

If the club are looking for a subject for their next official book then programmes would make an amazing subject.
