Martin will be remembered for scoring England’s second goal in the 1966 World Cup final. A player with great tactical vision which led Alf Ramsey the manager describing him in 1968 as being ten years ahead of his time. Tottenham and trophy winning captain. Excellent with either foot he was the first British player to cost £200,000 when he moved to Spurs in 1970 and then scored on his debut against Coventry. He was a member of the side that won the League Cup in 1971 and the UEFA Cup the following. He became the captain and led Spurs to the League Cup again in 1973 and was in the side that was runners up in the UEFA in 1974. Then he moved, many thinking too soon, to Norwich and later was player/manager at Sheffield United. Martin scored 76 times (including four away to Manchester United) in a Spurs shirt in 287 games. At Spurs he won 34 England caps to go with the 33 he won at West Ham, scoring 20 international goals. He captain the national side four times. He also appeared for the Football League. Martin was awarded the MBE and in 1998 he was invited to join the Board at Tottenham. Peters was a versatile midfield, he played in every position in his WHU days including goalie and was full back for England Schools. He was best as a midfielder with great technique. His late runs earning him the nickname ghost which he used for his autobiography. He was often described as the complete attacking midfielder. He has been inducted into the National and Tottenham Hall of Fame's. Recently his family revealed he is suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. We wish him well. Another one of my childhood heroes, I remember, collecting a set of football cards at the time and his was the last I could find, it took me a lot of effort and I still remember how frustrating it was till I finally got it
