Gallery - Wembley

These occasional dips into the photographic vaults seem to have been well received so when someone said do you have any more 'old' Old Wembley pictures, having run a number on social media I thought just the thing to vile away a few minutes as the season reaches a climax and before Spurs pack their hampers and head back round the M25. Enjoy.

Top - Wembley 1952 and Right the terracing under construction 1923.

Below - The 1948 Olympics and the GPO needed to install and test quite a few telephones.

Right - The Spurs V Burnley Cup Final was the last event before the roof was added that summer.

There's some people on the pitch they think its the 1923 Cup Final. Or the Bolton team look perplexed faced with West Ham's defensive wall!
Right - Forward to 1943 and the USA meet Canada meet at the stadium in a baseball contest.

Right - The Groundsman and the heavy roller in 1939. A year later the stadium would be used to house refugees fleeing from France and Belgium. 

Later in the war German V bombs would hit the ground killing some of the greyhounds that were housed there for the weekly races.

1975 and Evel Knievel leaps a dozen buses.

Below - Wembley as I remember it and watching for the Twin Towers as you made your way around the North Circular road.
