Tottenham face a trip to Georgia to play Dinamo Tbilisi in the Europa League play-offs as they begin their European Journey

The first leg will take place on Thursday August 22 and the return fixture will be a week later on August 29. This comes just three days before Spurs game against Arsenal at the Emirates.Tottenham will play their first match of the tie in Georgia followed by the home leg a week later. The team maybe unheard of to many but Dinamo are certainly no pushovers in the Georgian league having won it the most number of times {14}. Dinamo were the champions of the Georgian Umaglese Liga last season.They also won the Georgian Cup last season, which is the FA Cup equivalent in Georgian football. 

Spurs actually have a history against Dinamo Tbilisi, having played them in the 1973-74 UEFA Cup when Tbilisi was still a part of the USSR. Spurs drew at Dinamo 1-1 and won the home match 5-1 to progress.

If you are wondering why Tottenham has to go through a set of playoffs, something that we avoided last season, it is because the automatic spot has gone to the FA Cup Winners, Wigan,now a Championship team. These seemingly silly rules certainly aren't helping our cause as a trip to Georgia in the opening week is the last thing we need.
