One part of the current Tottenham management set up that you might not be so familiar with is Chris Ramsey.  Chris is currently working with Tim Sherwood guiding the first team and has been at the club since 2004 where he is Head of Player Development. A very well respected coach with excellent experience. I thought I’d have a look at what else he has done.

He holds a UEFA coaching licence and a FA Coach Education diploma. As well as diploma in the Treatment of Sports Injuries and a Masters degree in Sports Science. The Voice newspaper(1) included him in a list of the 30 most influential people working in football. Les Ferdinand and Garth Crooks were also included in the list.

Prior to joining Spurs he was at the FA working under the influential Howard Wilkinson.  He was Regional Director of Coaching in the South East and acted as the head coach of the England Under-20 team. He led the team to the FIFA World Youth championships in 1999. The following year he was part of the coaching team that England sent to the UEFA Under 16’s Championship. During his time at the FA he also did scouting duties for manager Kevin Keegan.
He returned to the FA briefly last summer when he helped guide the England Under 20 team in the World Cup tournament as the assistant head coach under ex-Spur Peter Taylor. He said at the time "On a personal level, I’m pleased and proud to add this tournament to my experiences and I believe it’s always important to stay right at the cutting edge," said Chris, "I can go there and see new trends that might well help the club and also work with the likes of Peter Taylor and Ugo Ehiogu, so I’m really excited, for players like Harry and Pritch (2) to be involved in a tournament like this can only be beneficial for their careers, and therefore the club."  Ugo, an former Villa player but lifelong Spurs supporter now also works at the Tottenham academy.
He left the FA and had a brief spell as the assistant coach at Luton Town. Later he moved to the USA where he managed Charleston Battery and in 2003 won the USL A-League, that’s the level below the MLS.

He started his career at Bristol City and throughout his playing days he had the nickname ‘Rambo’. This was due to his physical and robust style of play at full back rather than any history of blowing things up. He left Bristol and moved to Brighton. Where he played in the 1983 FA Cup Final.

Ramsey then joined Swindon in 1984 and was in the Division Four championship wining squad in 1985/86. While he was at Swindon he was famously fined by Lou Macari after a match versus Port Vale. During the game Ramsey put his foot on the ball and pulled his socks up!
Swindon were four goals up at the time. He moved to Southend after three years.
The next stop was becoming player-coach for the Naxxar Lions in the Maltese league. This was followed by his first spell in the USA as player, assistant coach and coach for the Cocoa Expos team based in Florida who played in the fourth level of soccer in the USA. From there it was to the FA and the rest is history (3).

Notes -
1. The Voice - is the leading newspaper for the black community in the UK.
2. Harry Kane and Alex Pritchard.
3. Tottenham OS seem to have taken down the profiles of all their coaching staff at the moment.
