The almanac arrives in January as we dig out some of the stories that might otherwise slip past us unnoticed that occurred this month in previous. With goals galore, how to start the year off as well as firsts and lasts not forgetting a few birthday boys  and goalscoring keepers.

Let us start back in 1985 for a dream start to the year. Tottenham are top of the table as the year dawns and they travel to Arsenal on the 1st. where we win 2-1. Our goals from Mark Falco and Garth Crooks seal the points.

1st – 2014 – We win at Old Trafford when Adebayor and Eriksen score in another 2-1 win.

1st – 1996 – This time we beat United 4-1 at home. Armstrong has 2, Sheringham and Campbell one each. It’s the first time United concede four in the PL.

2nd - 1993 – We beat Non-league Marlow 5-1 in an away game (at White Hart Lane) as we start on the FA Cup trail with goals by Sherringham,  Barmby 2 and Samways 2.

2nd – 1909 – Billy Minter scores twice and Middlemass once as we win 3-0 at the now departed Leeds City in our first Football League season and we are promoted.

3rd – 2000 - The first game of this Millennium and a 1-0 win sees Liverpool lose at the Lane. This time it’s Chris Armstrong on the score sheet.

6th - 2001 – A nail biting Cup match at Leyton Orient sees Gary Doherty snatch a late winner.

6th – 1900 – The first match in the last Millennium and we draw 0-0 away to QPR in our Southern League Championship season.  The first goal of that Millennium arrives two days later in a 3-2 win over Southern in the Southern District Combination, curtsey of John Cameron.
